Frequently Asked Questions — Hutton Life Coaching

Question 1

What happens in a free 30-minute Discovery Session?

Accepted Answer

It's really just a conversation. You tell me a little about what's going on, what you've been struggling with, and what you'd like to be different. I'll ask some clarifying questions, you'll get a feel for how I work, and you'll have a chance to ask me anything you'd like. It's also a chance for both of us to see if working together feels like a good fit. There's no pressure to sign up for anything.

Question 2

How do we get started?

Accepted Answer

Start by booking a free 30-minute Discovery Session. We'll talk about what's going on, what you'd like to be different, and whether working together feels like a good fit. If we decide to move forward, you'll choose the coaching package that feels right for you and we'll schedule your first session. After that, I'll send you a few questions to answer before we meet. I recommend coming back to them over two or three sittings to see whether your answers change depending on the day, the time of day, or your mood. That can give us a fuller picture to start with when we meet for your first session.

Question 3

What's the difference between life coaching and career coaching?

Accepted Answer

Career coaching usually starts with work. Maybe you're looking for a job, stuck or unhappy in your current job, not sure what's next, or thinking about starting a business. We talk through what you really want, what kind of work would be a better fit, and what steps could get you there. Life coaching is broader. It's about the parts of your life where you feel stuck, stressed, unsure of yourself, or pulled in different directions. Sometimes one part of you wants to make a change while another part really doesn't. We slow things down and get curious about what each side is saying and why. The two often overlap, and you don't have to know which one you need before we start.

Question 4

What happens in a coaching session?

Accepted Answer

Most sessions have three parts. We start with what's been happening in your world since we last talked — what's been going well, what felt successful, what's still feeling hard, and anything you want to make sure we talk about. Then we spend most of the session working on whatever feels most important that day. I'll guide you through an experience or a strategy that helps you see something differently and gives you something useful to take into the week. At the end, we wrap things up by talking about how to integrate what came up in the session and how you want to practice or use it over the next week.

Question 5

How long do people usually work with you?

Accepted Answer

It really depends on what you're working on. Some people work with me for a month, while others continue for up to a year. Most people work with me for about three to six months. After that, we often take a break so you can put what we've worked on into practice and see how things feel in your everyday life. Then we can check in and decide whether there's more you'd like to work on. A lot of clients also come back later for an occasional session — just to check in, work through something new, or get some support when life shifts.

Question 6

What happens between sessions?

Accepted Answer

One of the things that makes the way I work a little different is that you have access to me between sessions. You can text me if something comes up, if you want to share a win, or if you need a little support putting something into practice. I'll also check in with you, and if it would be helpful, we can do a quick check-in call midway between sessions. The idea is that the work doesn't just happen during the session. You have support as you're actually living it out during the week.

Question 7

Do sessions happen in person or virtually?

Accepted Answer

Both. Julie offers in-person coaching from her Matthews, NC location and virtual sessions with clients anywhere in the US via video call.

Question 8

Is everything I share kept confidential?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Everything discussed in sessions is completely confidential. Trust is the foundation of the coaching relationship.

Question 9

What is life coaching and how is it different from therapy?

Accepted Answer

Therapy focuses on healing the past — processing trauma, mental health conditions, and emotional wounds. Life coaching is forward-focused. We start from where you are right now and work toward where you want to go. Coaching is action-oriented and practical. We're not diagnosing anything or working through clinical issues — we're building clarity, confidence, and a path forward.
